The next time you drive by a police car on the side of the road, it might not be an actual officer inside the car.
That could happen if you drive through Cedar Grove, a town next to Panama City, Florida.
Mary the mannequin's job is to make sure drivers obey the law.
Her purpose is to make drivers slow down, thinking she's a real cop.
“I'll put Mary in a spot for a couple of days. Then, move Mary, and put a real officer in the car. So, when people get used to seeing Mary as a mannequin, that's when they say, 'Oh God. I just got pulled over by a dummy,” explained Chief Guy J. Turcotte of the Cedar Grove Police Department.
Mary doesn't cost the department much money.
All of the equipment she uses or wears is old and out of general use.
