The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Tuesday that a Ten Commandments monument should be removed from the Alabama Supreme Court building.
The court, in a unanimous ruling, agreed with an order from a federal court ruling that the monument violates the constitution.
The appeals court cited U.S. Supreme Court rulings saying that the government may not promote or affiliate itself with any religious doctrine or organization.
Moore put the monument in the rotunda of the courthouse on July 31, 2001.
He was sued by several attorneys who said the monument infringed on their first amendment rights.
In November, Montgomery Federal Judge Myron Thompson ordered the monument removed but then decided it could stay pending the appeal.
