The director of the Enterprise-Geneva-Daleville economic consortium says it may be the biggest economic event for the Wiregrass in more than a decade.

At a state business conference in Orange Beach, consortium director Frank Thompson says SYSCO Corporation has not only created several hundred new jobs in Geneva and surrounding communities, it's also fueled a demand in the real estate market and has created spin-off industries.

The Houston, Texas-based company is the nation's leading supplier of food to restaurants.

Geneva's plant supplies businesses in northwest, Florida and southern Alabama.
