Driver Charged in Wreck on Fort Rucker in Court

ELBA, Ala. (AP) - A 74-year-old man facing 22 charges for a bus crash that left a Marine dead and scores of others injured will be arraigned in Coffee County Circuit Court on Monday.

Howard Glenn Miller of Warrior appeared in Circuit Judge Robert Barr's courtroom last week to ask for a court-appointed lawyer. Barr ruled that Miller was not indigent and gave a continuance until Monday. The crash occurred March 9 on Fort Rucker.

Authorities allege that Miller was driving a charter bus when it flipped in a curve and overturned on Mateson Range, near state Highway 27. Nineteen-year-old Lance Cpl. David Miles died from his injuries.

Others were injured including one Marine who was left paralyzed. A Coffee County grand jury indicted Miller on Sept. 2 on 21 assault counts and one felony count of homicide by vehicle.
