Troy Police want motorists to take caution when traveling on George Wallace Drive this week. Police say roadwork on the street is causing several delays and forcing many to take alternate routes.
The road links Highway 231 to most of the schools in the city, including Troy University and Charles Henderson High School.
With schools now in session, police say traffic on the road will be very congested.
“Our main concern first and foremost is for the safety of the workers working in this area as well as the motorists that are traveling,” said Sgt. Benny Scarbrough of Troy Police.
City leaders say the project should be complete before Troy University's first home football game on September 2nd.
