A Dothan police officer, accused of showing up for work drunk last week, has resigned.
Police Chief John Powell says Officer Kelly Welch submitted a letter of resignation Monday.
Welch was removed from duty after supervisor's noticed the smell of alcohol when he reported for work last Wednesday.
The city's personnel department was contacted and termination proceedings were launched, but Welch decided to resign instead.
