Troy State University has begun operating a teaching site in Malaysia it hopes will lead more foreign students to its Alabama campuses.

The university has operated similar sites outside the United States for more than 30 years. The site opened in Malacca earlier this month.

Dr. Susan Aldridge of Troy State's University College division said some 50 students have already enrolled. The site is primarily offering an undergraduate business degree, with plans to add a masters program and other offerings.

Aldridge says University College hopes to use the program as a "feeder system" for students who wish to obtain visas and study at Troy State.

Troy State operates more than 50 teaching sites outside Alabama in 14 states and eight foreign nations.
