The Chipley city council approved a resolution to renew passenger rail service to Northwest Florida earlier this month.

Up until three-years-ago, Amtrak passenger trains ran across the panhandle with designated stops in Crestview, Tallahassee and in Chipley.

It brought travelers from throughout the country to the countryseat of Washington County.

It ended following the devastation from Hurricane Katrina. But, there's a bill submitted by Florida Congressman Allen Boyd to reinstate service.

Federal monies' were used to cover the large, multi-million dollar budget deficits generated by Amtrak.
