Updated: Wed 12:14 PM, Jun 25, 2003

Teachers and administrators across the state are being asked to back Alabama Gov. Bob Riley's $1.2 billion tax and accountability package.

The state Department of Education has launched a campaign soliciting a "yes" vote on Sept. 9 for the plan.

A memo from State School Superintendent Ed Richardson encourages all education employees to campaign in "favor" of the referendum.

Houston County administrators say they are attending a seminar in July on how to educate teachers about the plan.

Ozark School Superintendent Dan Payant says they are working to educate Ozark residents about the tax package.

He said it's important to inform voters because the tax package is so in-depth.
