Since the 1930s, the Covington Industries Building on Covington Avenue has served as headquarters for a host of businesses. Most recently, it was transformed into a Halloween haunted house.
This week, developer John Bartholomew began taking it down along with a half-dozen other downtown structures. They will make way for Westside Square, a collection of restaurants, bakeries, retail shops and an amphitheater for summer music performances.
It total, they'll be some 16 retail shops which will make up Westside Square.
