The "CBS Evening News" anchor turned a few heads as he got to know his latest interview subjects, the Blind Boys of Alabama, a gospel group that's been making music for more than 60 years.
The 70-year-old Rather was in Birmingham with a camera crew following the Blind Boys for a segment of "60 Minutes II."
Rather, a Texas native, spent about 90 minutes interviewing the group's lead singer Clarence Fountain on a concert stage where the group performed Tuesday night.
Fountain said he has a real weakness for soul food, especially corn bread and black-eyed peas. The culinary treats were part of their afternoon meal at Fife's, a Birmingham institution that earned an enthusiastic thumbs-up from Rather and the Blind Boys.
