The possible sales tax hike in Dothan has excited business owners in Florida.
Graceville antique shop owner Adele Kuszmaul says it's often frustrating to see Floridians shopping in Dothan.
But with talk that the Dothan city council may soon raise its sales tax from 8 to 9 percent; folks may be less inclined to commute to Alabama.
Graceville's sales tax is at 7.5 percent.
"In Graceville, I’m hoping people will shop here and not travel to Dothan,” said Kuszmaul. “If Dothan goes to 9 percent, that's a significant increase. That’s nearly 10 percent out of a dollar."
In Florida, most grocery items and prescription drugs are exempt from sales taxes.
