Dothan city commissioners voted 4-to-3 to consider extending City Manager Mike West's contract later this month.
Commissioners Keith Seagle, John Craig and Amos Newsome opposed the move.
His proposed new contract would give West more job security, but his 156,000 salary is not expected to change.
Under the new contract, West's maximum number of accumulated sick days would be reduced from 60 to 45 and disability insurance would go from 2,500 to 2,300 dollars.
“This would give him some stability and it would take the public flogging that he has to put up annually and allow him to do his work,” said Dothan Mayor Pat Thomas
Commissioners will vote on the contract December 16th.
