Thursday's shooting has surprised many people in the 1000 block of Eugene Street.

Authorities say the shooting took place around 2 p.m. between 22 year-old Michael Dixon and 25 year-old Jason Glenn.

"Apparently they were dating the same female and this was a problem and when they began to argue this escalated into a fight which escalated into one of the victims being shot," said Major Nick Monday with Dothan Police Department.

Anterica Thomas lives right next to the home where the incident took place and says things like this never happen in her neighborhood.

"It was very shocking, knowing that it's right next door to me. Knowing, what if we were here," said Thomas.

Officials say they tend to see an increase in domestic violence during the holiday season. And Thursday’s incident goes to show just how dangerous these situations can lead to.

"Usually at the end of the day or a day or so later we start having domestic calls, domestic violence calls," said Major Monday.

The victim is still at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center in the intensive care unit. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Dixon is currently in the Houston County Jail with a $30,000 bond.
