A new school year is right around the corner. That means new procedures and policies for students and teachers. Schools in Houston County have new rules when it comes to dress codes and cell phones.
Summer break is coming to a close and students can expect to see a few changes as they return to class. Many schools are changing their cell phone policies to adapt to the new technology age, including both Houston County and city schools.
"Cell phones can be on a person, but they can't be displayed. They can enter the building now." Principal Ron Snell of Northview High School
Dress codes are also being strengthened to make schools more conducive for learning.
"We are asking men to tuck their shirts in, pull their pants up and wear a belt, same for the ladies."
Both city and county school systems are adjusting their rules to allow students the best opportunity to learn.
"There's considerable data shows young people are dressed appropriately then they behave appropriately and are more apt to learn," said Watford.
Both schools expect changes in their policies to benefit students and each individual school.
Schools throughout the Wiregrass will be holding their open houses next week.
