Despite heavy rains, Georgians are being asked to curb their water use beginning June 1.
The Environmental Protection Division is asking homeowners to water their lawns or wash their cars on an every-other-day schedule.
People are being asked to voluntarily obey the new outdoor water use restrictions for about a year before state officials make them mandatory.
Those with odd addresses will be asked to water on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. People with even addresses may water on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
The hours will not be restricted.
Nap Caldwell of the Environmental Protection Division says residents are being asked to conserve water despite the recent heavy rains in anticipation of the time when the rain stops.
The new statewide regulations come as Georgia emerges from a four-year drought. Officials say rains this year have raised the levels of reservoirs and groundwater.
