Unemployment Benefits

Legislation will benefit nearly 2.5 million people who have lost their jobs since President Bush took office.

But Democrats complain that a million long-term unemployed are being denied extra help.

The nation's unemployment rate is six percent, which is an eight-year high.

The bill would allow Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania to get 26 weeks of federal aid.

The Senate plans to act on the bill Friday.
