Death Toll Rising Even Though Heat Wave is History

Although most of the places affected by this week's heat wave are cooling down today, the death toll continues to climb.

At least 29 deaths are blamed on the scorching weather in the East and Midwest. And that's in addition to the estimated 164 killed by the heat in California. Meteorologists believe the same system moved across the country.

Philadelphia has at least four heat-related deaths. Family members found the victims, none of whom even had fans, much less air conditioners.

The heat also claimed six lives in Maryland, while New York City and Washington each saw their first heat-related deaths of the summer.
