Dothan Utilities officials say the demand for electricity is high in the city, but there is more than enough to go around.
In the wake of a recent rash of hot dry weather, utility systems nationwide are experiencing an energy overload by customers.
Local officials say the likelihood of its system shutting down is slim, because they built the substation, which contains the cities main circuits, to take the high heat.
“Typically our summers are hot so we have it designed to take higher loads, one thing that could happen, if we lost a circuit or something like that, there's a possibility we couldn't transfer loads over because we actually have lines that are loaded also,” said Richard Ash of Dothan Utilities.
Officials say the only time the system really blacks out is when squirrels get on the lines and electrocute themselves.
