The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is hoping someone will step forward with information about a break-in and burglary at the Beau Turner Youth Conservation Center this week.

Thieves broke into the primary storage building on the 160-acre site at the intersection of U.S. highways 19 and 27 in Jefferson County, sometime in the evening of Oct. 29 or 30.

They took a Dixie Chopper 60-inch, zero-turn-radius lawnmower, two Stihl weed trimmers, gasoline and other items.

The value of the stolen property is approximately $8,000.

“This is an absolute shame, because the property and facilities are here to benefit young people in the area,” said Bill Cline, who heads up the FWC’s Hunter Safety and Public Shooting Range programs.

Anyone with information about the stolen items or responsible party is urged to contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The FWC is offering a reward through its Wildlife Alert program to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest of those involved. The Wildlife Alert number is 888-404-3922.
