The event titled, "Yes We Can, Parents!" was put together by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.
The system, partnering with Dothan's "Yes, We Can!" group held a parent summit featuring a resource fair with community agencies, guest speaker, and breakout sessions on numerous topics.
Keynote speaker Linda Garrett, UNISERV Director for District 25 of the Alabama Education Association, presented a "Mega Skills" curriculum about parent's getting the most out of their child's potential.
Breakout sessions featured topics on cyber net training, preparing for graduation, helping children with special needs, and more.
Rosalind James, an Urban Regional Extension Agent who has organized the events at Northview and Dothan High, say they have been a great success with the same goal in mind.
"Our ultimate goal is to help build a bridge between parents and the school system and just build positive communication. Hopefully everyone will work together so all of our children in Dothan City Schools can succeed in school."
