Country Crossing held Groundbreaking Monday

The official groundbreaking for Country Crossing was held Monday. It's a multi-million dollar complex which promises to bring hundreds of jobs and economic development.

With Academy award winning actor Jamie Foxx at his side, Ronnie Gilley along with a delegation of who's who in entertainment and politics broke ground. Foxx, along with an all-star list of entertainers, are investing in its future.

Country Crossings will eventually become a Mecca for country music and other forms of entertainment. It is the brainchild of New Brockton native Ronnie Gilley.

The land developer says this has been a dream for many, many years. He is promising to bring hundreds of new jobs and pumping tens-of-millions into the local economy.

"This project will definitely bring change to the Wiregrass. Something that this area needs and we will be part of it," said Gilley.

The site is several miles north of the Florida line along Highway 231. Besides Dothan and Houston County, this could be the goose that lays' the golden egg for communities on both sides' of the state line.

Dothan Chamber of Commerce Matt Parker said, “This can change the entire dynamics of this area economy.”

Gilley promises that the site will soon be cleared and construction will begin as soon as possible.

He thanked local leaders for what he calls their ability to see the good for the community in the project and he promised country crossing will be a tremendous economic boost for the area.

What? No comments about today's groundbreaking ceremony for Country Crossing? Okay, well here's one from a neighbor to the north of Houston County: HATS OFF TO RONNIE GILLEY for thinking of this project, and HATS OFF TO THE HOUSTON CO. COMMISSION for having the intestinal fortitude to back him and to help get it off the ground. The wiregrass area needs something like this, and I have to say, "It's about time!" And for those who will put this down as something wrong or sinful, keep in mind that it will probably help this area more than anything else has in a lot of years. We're talking 700 to 1000 jobs in just the first year and millions (possibly billions before it's over with) of dollars that will be pumped into the economy of southeast Alabama. And by the way, local charities will be reaping some benefits from this project, too. That in itself will make it a worthwhile thing. So, that's my take on that. GO RONNIE GILLEY AND HOUSTON COUNTY! Make us all proud, gentlemen!!
