Hartford voters have complained about a lack of parking at their precinct. City officials believe it's not their responsibility to pay for the paving.
Several small voting houses in central Geneva County were consolidated within the Johnny Hughes Community two years ago.
The Hartford council wants the Geneva County Board of Commissioners to come up with the funds to pave the parking lot.
Since the center is used for voting and numerous other functions, town officials say it's up to Geneva County to come up with the necessary dollars.
“Parking especially during elections and some family reunions. Class reunions and things of that nature. We need considerable amount of parking and we need it for our people,” Mayor Eria Sorrells of Hartford said.
Geneva County Commissioner Gary Shields, who represents Hartford on the board, is expected to ask his fellow commissioners for the necessary funds to do the paving work.
