Sybers Hearing

There's a hearing on tap Monday afternoon in Panama City that could see the end of the long murder case against former Bay County medical examiner William Sybers.

He was convicted two years ago in the 1991 killing of his wife Kay. Prosecutors maintained he had her body embalmed immedidately after death to hide evidence she had been poisoned. But an appeals court overturned the verdict in February, sending the case back to circuit court.

A re-trial has tentatively been scheduled for July in Pensacola. But the prosecution has been expected to ask for a delay and that paperwork has not yet been filed.

Sybers' current wife Judy has told the Panama City News-Herald that the case "will all be over" after today's hearing. Her husband has been undergoing treatment for lung cancer. Both she and William Sybers are planning a news conference after the hearing.
