A nursing student enrolled in college this fall had to cross a few extra hurdles before getting accepted into the program.
Nereida Angulo is a Columbia native, who was transferred to the United States because of her husband's job.
After only a year, Nereida has learned the English language and is now working toward being a registered nurse.
She credits her achievement to the English as a Second Language course at Wallace Community College.
"You know every time I find someone who is a Spanish-speaker, I encourage them to go to the ESL program at Wallace because it's very helpful,” said Nereida. “I think that everyone who has the opportunity should take advantage of it."
The ESL program is part of Wallace Community College's adult learning program and is offered free of charge.
