The Civil Air Patrol has discovered what might be a plane that has been missing since Monday.
Officials say they believe they found the 1974 Piper Saratoga airplane on Johns Mountain in Gordon County in northwest Georgia.
Fifty-seven-year-old Don Wilson was the only passenger in the plane piloted by James McCaslin of Ozark, Alabama.
One of Wilson's four children, Donna Hicks, says she remains confident that her father is still alive.
A plane had been missing since flying into stormy weather Monday night from the Campbell County Airport in Tennessee on its way back to southeast Alabama. Civil Air Patrol personnel have been searching north Georgia since then trying to find the small plane.
The sighting was made during overhead search flights, but ground crews were having difficulty reaching it because of darkness and a rouged landscape.
McCaslin and Wilson were returning after flying some of Wilson's family to Tennessee.
A spokeswoman for the Georgia Emergency Management Agency, Alissa Janak, says it should not take long to confirm the plane using the aircraft identification number to match it to the found plane.
