A Wiregrass truancy program is being given an "A" by the Enterprise City School Board.
Student services director, Dr. Irma Townsend, says early warning court handled 400 cases this past school year.
Coffee County District Judge Paul Sherling oversees the program. It’s for students who have at least five unexcused absences.
The parents of the child are also required to appear before Judge Sherling. A parent in one case was actually jailed for not making sure his child was attending school.
"One school had 30-to-40 tardiest a day. Now they have 3 or 4 at the end of the school year. Parents see we are serious about having their children in school and working with them in getting it resolved," said Dr. Townsend.
Judge Sherling's early warning court also handles unexcused absences for elba city and the coffee county school districts.
