An investigation will begin Wednesday into Tuesday night's chemical leak at Tri-States Food Plant in Dothan.
Workers noticed a cloud of ammonia gas leaking outside one of the factory's holding tanks around 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The workers were able to contain the leak by shutting off valves, which lead into the facility.
Dothan hazardous materials team evacuated workers and blocked off nearby city streets.
Fire officials say the plant will remain closed until company maintenance workers find the exact cause and repair the leak.
Fortunately, no one was injured.
New safety procedures have been put in place at Tri-State since a dangerous leak back on April 11, 2000. It forced the evacuation of hundreds of nearby residents.
