Retired U-S General Colin Powell has endorsed Senator Barack Obama for President. The former secretary of state in the Bush administration is a long-time friend of Senator John McCain, but Powell believes McCain is not prepared to handle the country’s economic crisis.
Retired General Colin Powell says Senator Barack Obama is ready to be commander and chief.
Retired General Colin Powell says, " I think he is a transformational figure. He is a new generation, coming into, onto the world stage, onto the American stage and for that reason I'll be voting for Barack Obama.
Powell says he's only really known obama for 2 years, but says he's impressed with the Senator's intellect, his inclusive campaign, his choice of Senator joe Biden as Vice President, and his ability to inspire th nation.

Powell served in the military and government for 40 years, most recently as secretary of state under President George W. Bush. Powell has been friends with Senator John McCain for 25 years and says McCain would make a good president. But he questions McCain’s judgement…both when it concerns the economy and his choice of Vice President, Governor Sarah Palin.
Powell went on to say, "I don't believe she's ready to be president of the United States which is the job of the V.P.
Senator John McCain, Presidential Nominee, says "Well, I've always admired and respected General Powell. We're longtime friends. This doesn't come as a surprise, but I'm also very pleased to have the endorsement of four former Secretaries of State - Secretaries Kissinger, Baker, Eagleburger and Haig."
Powell says he won’t campaign for Obama and is not looking for a job in his administration. But he says Obama’s exactly who the country needs in the White House.
