Dothan Man Gets 12 years in Shooting Death of a Teenager

A Dothan man found guilty of manslaughter in the shooting death of a teenager has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

During the criminal hearing, prosecutors contended that last January 22-year-old Joshua Jones pointed a 40-caliber pistol at 15-year-old Daniel McKinnon and pulled the trigger, not knowing the gun was loaded.

The defense claimed the gun fired accidentally when Jones lost his grip while handing the weapon to McKinnon.

Jones also has to pay for funeral and restitution costs for the McKinnon family, amount between 5,000 and 10,000 dollars.

A 10,000 dollar appeal bond was set by Judge Ed Jackson.
