Delta air lines will file a request Monday with a bankruptcy court judge to terminate its pilots' pension plan.
A letter from the company's chief executive to a lawmaker Friday says the nation's third-largest carrier will ask the pilots' pension be terminated effective September 2.
Officials say the Atlanta-based airline is still seeking pension reform in congress in hopes of preserving the pension plan for other employees.
And Delta cannot successfully restructure and emerge from bankruptcy without terminating the pilot plan.
Delta has lost more than $14 billion in the last five years.
