Emergency responders in Geneva County are getting some much needed funding.
State Senator Harri Anne Smith along with state representative warren beck handed-out checks to each of the county's 10 volunteer fire departments.
Each department received just under $2,000 from the Alabama forestry commission.
It's part of an on-going program to lend assistance to cash-strapped volunteer fire departments statewide.
Alabama Forestry Commission Bobby Light said, "I think the Alabama legislature realizes it’s really hard for these volunteer fire departments to raise money. This is why they created this fund. That they may get needed equipment that they may never have gotten if it wasn't for these grants."
The money will be spent on equipment and other needs of each volunteer fire department.
