A hospital in Northwest Florida is one step closer to having a new owner.
By a 3-2 vote, the Washington County Commission agreed to go with a proposal made by Sacred Heart Hospital.
The Pensacola based company has offered to buy Northwest Florida Community Hospital for $1. That's if the county will spend $3.2 million to replace the roof and windows and improve the Emergency Room.
With a cutback in federal Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements, the county-run hospital has accumulated more than $2 million in debt.
A sale contract with Sacred Heart is expected to be ironed out within the next 90 days.
