Hispanic Banking

The head of the Alabama Latin American Association says he plans to step up efforts to encourage banks to offer more services to the state's Hispanic population.

Hernan Prado says many Hispanics in Alabama don't use banks and are getting ripped off by expensive money wiring fees or are courting danger by carrying lots of cash.

But, he says a workshop that his organization co-sponsored with the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and City of Birmingham last week brought up many great ideas that he and other Hispanic leaders plan to share with others.
