Wednesday, Coffee County Sheriff Ben Moates congratulated his one time deputy, Lance Tindol, on a fair, clean campaign.
Sheriff Moates first took office in January, 1995 and has held the post for the last 11 years. He was elected and re-elected a total of three times.
The sheriff says he tried to bring the department into the 21st century on a very limited budget.
Whoever is finally elected in the November general election, Sheriff Moates says they'll be facing tough challenges.
"The new sheriff has a job on his hands. He will have to work with the commission. Convince them that the sheriff's office has got to get the equipment for this county," said Sheriff Moates.
Sheriff Moates says his future plans are undecided but, he doesn't rule out the possibility of a future bid for public office.
