Former President Kicks Off Yearly Initiative Meeting

ATLANTA (AP) - Before a sold-out crowd of enthusiastic
supporters and guests former President Jimmy Carter and wife
Rosalynn Carter held their annual town hall meeting outlining their
yearly initiatives and answering audience questions.

Kicking off the "Conversations at The Carter Center" program
series, the Carters opened with a summary of health care, election
monitoring and mental health initiatives. They then addressed
audience concerns about the Bush administration's proposed Wall
Street bailout, the current presidential campaign and problems
associated with emerging democracies.

"I believe that the proposal put forth by Mr. Paulson is
extremely faulty," Carter said of the treasury secretary's bailout
