Casualty From Troy

Family and friends of Army Private First Class John "Johnny" E. Brown of Troy are mourning his death Tuesday. The 23-year-old Brown was killed in Baghdad on Monday. He served with the 101st Airborne Division, based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

The Army has provided no details as to the circumstances of the death.

Now flags are flying at half-staff in Troy.

He is the fourth Alabama soldier to die in the Iraqi conflict. Funeral arrangements were incomplete.

Other war casualties include: Army Private First Class Howard Johnson, Jr. of Mobile. He was Alabama's first casualty in the war when his convoy was ambushed March 23 near Nasiriyah.

Army Private Kelley S. Prewitt of Birmingham was killed in action April 7 in Iraq by enemy fire.

Army Staff Sgt. Nino D. Livaudais of Fort Mitchell died April 3 in a car bomb explosion at a checkpoint northwest of Baghdad.
