The decomposed bodies of an adult and a newborn infant were found near a California marina.

Investigators are examining the bodies to see if they could be related to the Laci Peterson case.

The body of the infant was found first by two people walking their dogs late Sunday afternoon. The second body was found Monday.

The bodies are reportedly extremely decomposed, with both sets of remains being described as mostly skeletal.

Police say what appears to be an umbilical cord is still attached to the infant's body. So far, race, gender, or exact ages of the bodies have not been determined.

Police officials say early indications are that the adult remains are those of a female.

Laci Peterson was eight months pregnant when she disappeared December 24. Although not a suspect, her husband has been termed a person of interest in the investigation.
