The Elba Chamber of Commerce held its annual awards ceremony.

It's a time to thank those who've helped make western Coffee county a better place to live and work.

Chamber Executive Director Kaye Whitworth, posthumously honored a native son.

Jason Jordan was awarded the Spirit Award. In July 2003 as a member of the 101st Airborne, Jason and a fellow soldier were killed by snipper fire while patrolling an Iraqi village.

Whitworth says such determination and paying the ultimate price for one's country cannot be put into words.

Jason's parents, Danny and Sandra Jackson accepted their son's award.

Jason Jordan was one of the first Wiregrass residents to die in "Operation Iraqi Freedom".
