The Dothan Fire Department has a new device to control flooding and erosion in low-lying areas.
The flood-safe system was developed right here in Dothan by Advanced Coastal Technologies and Dothan firefighters helped to test it.
CEO Rande Kessler presented the fire department with one of the 100 foot tubes this morning, but smaller units are also available.
The device is inflated with air so it can be shaped to fit and then filled with water to hold it in place. Once set-up, the flood-safe system acts like a huge sand-bag to limit flood damage and erosion.
Kessler says people as far away as Pennsylvania have already purchased the flood-safe system.
"We fill it with water and we work with that and it was one of the innovations that we decided well you can protect from water with a bag of water and it makes it portable so we just took it from there"
