Dothan Police Chief John Powell went to Washington to promote funding for juvenile programs throughout the state of Alabama.
Chief Powell was asked to deliver a presentation to committees in both the house and senate. He was proposing for congress not to cut funding for programs directly affecting youth in the state.
If funding is cut it will affect programs like the boys and girls club in addition to several after school programs.
Powell says one key to keeping juveniles safe and out of trouble is ensuring they have a place to go after school.
Chief Powell was invited to Washington to meet with Senator Shelby who is fighting to keep funding at or above the same level as last year.
