Senior citizens who want to enroll in a Medicare drug prescription program have until midnight if they want to avoid costly penalties.
The state department of elder affairs dispatched hundreds of counselors around Florida Monday to help people 65 and older with the enrollment process.
Many seniors have complained the program is too confusing and they don't like the May 15th deadline.
People who miss that deadline would face a one percent penalty added to their monthly premium.
The prescription drug program offers discounts to seniors on their medicines.
The next open enrollment period will run from November 15th through December 31st for coverage starting on January 1st, 2007. To enroll, log on to www.medicare.gov.
