Last year, Houston County had the highest number of reported rabies cases in the state.
And local veterinarians are now doing something about it.
Today, veterinarians hosted clinics throughout Houston County offering low-cost rabies vaccines.
They donated their time to help reduce the large number of rabies in the community. Rabies can be transmitted from animals to humans and veterinarians say the best way to prevent the disease from spreading is by getting all of your pets vaccinated.
It is against state law not to have your dog or cat vaccinated each year.
Shots are available at any veterinary office in the county.
