A Holmes County Sheriff's deputy is lucky to be alive after being shot in the head by a suspect.

Sergeant Michael Raley was involved in a traffic stop Friday night when the subject, Matthew Olin Bryan, took off.

During the pursuit, Bryan fired a 12-gauge shotgun at the deputy's vehicle.

The bullet pierced the windshield, striking Raley in the head. He was treated and released with non life threatening injuries.

Bryan was found later that night in a nearby residence and arrested.

He is currently being held in the Walton County Jail.
