Farm Gas Refunds

Monday is the last day for Alabama farmers to file their state gasoline tax refund claims with the Alabama Department of Revenue.

The refund claims are based on portions of the state excise tax paid by farmers on gasoline used during 2002 for agricultural purposes.

The portion of the gasoline tax that can be refunded applies to the amount of gas that is used in tractors. Gasoline used in farm trucks is not included.

The refund claim must be postmarked no later than Monday.

Forms are available at all county extension agent offices and all Alabama Department of Revenue Taxpayer Service Centers. In Dothan, the service center is located at 344 North Oates Street. For more information, you can call 793-5803.

Last year, the Department of Revenue processed 140 claims resulting in more than $28,000 being refunded to farmers.
