The Houston County Sanitation Department proposed a partnership with Wiregrass Electric Co-op that would cut down on past due collections and save the county money.
The partnership will help reduce the number of outstanding claims that go to small claims court, which ends up costing the county, sheriff’s office and court system.
Wiregrass Electric has an efficient collection infrastructure that would help maintain accurate and timely bill collection.
"We are looking for any way to increase efficiencies within the county and right now one of those areas is in sanitation collection, we talked about going to property tax, and wiregrass electric saw that discussion and came forward to offer some service to us, we appreciate that it appears that it will be a good win win for both us and Wiregrass Electric," said Mark Culver, Houston County Commission.
If the proposal passes the partnership will begin in January 2009.
