Similar experiences for many workers in downtown Dothan on Wednesday, things were fine and then lights out as power surges coursed through the power lines downtown.

At the Houston county courthouse , workers in the clerks office dealing with payments were forced to do much of their work by hand.

"when their payment plans are set up then we had a hard time being able to receipt the money," said circuit clerk Carla Woodall. "because we had to look up the case number if they had the case number we just did manual receipts"

According to representatives from Dothan Utilities there were two separate surges on Thursday morning, one at 6 and another after 8. The second outage reportedly originated from an Alabama power grid.

Utility officials say they plan on monitoring many of the lines in downtown Dothan over the next few weeks to make sure the cause of the issue is isolated.
