Interstate-10 Packed with Residents Fleeing Storm

With mandatory evacuations along much of coastal Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, the westbound lanes of Interstate-10 appeared like a ghost town.

There was limited traffic heading toward the hurricane on Monday at the Chipley overpass. However, vehicles continued to stream eastbound away from Hurricane Gustav.

Many of those motorists reportedly found accommodations in Tallahassee where evacuees filled most of the hotels and motels.

Florida Department of Transportation officials tell News 4 that traffic flowed smoothly and there were few accidents during the evacuation.
