A Henry County man has been arrested on murder charges after allegedly beating a man to death with a two-by-four plank.

Edward Britt of Headland is accused of killing Jerry Campbell of Dothan during an argument.

Investigators said the two men stopped their vehicle in the parking lot of a church on Cottonwood Road Saturday night to settle a domestic dispute.

Campbell was hit in the head with a two-by-four plank. Britt claims he acted in self-defense and grabbed a piece of wood from a nearby construction site when Campbell attacked him with a knife.

However, police said they have located witnesses that discredit the self-defense claim.

At last report, Britt was being held without bond in the Houston County Jail. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance Friday.
