A new defense bill calls for the production of 44 new Army UH 60 Blackhawk helicopters.
Congressman Terry Everett says the 2007 defense authorization bill was approved by the house armed services committee.
$2 million is being requested for the National Space Studies Center at Maxwell’s Air University.
It also asks for more than $9 million for military helicopter and missile systems some which are made in Southeast Alabama.
The bill also seeks authorization for 234 Joint Airs to surface cruise missiles which are assembled at the Lockheed Martin plant in Pike County.
The bill will be voted on in the full Senate next week.
